Instant Forest
As an immigrant living in NY, I have felt physically isolated from my home country. Instant Forest was part of my solo exhibition at NARS Foundation. With this work, I tried to connect myself to Korea, using images of custom forms sent by my mother. Since I moved to New York in 2017, I have been collecting these customs forms. It was part of my effort to archive the history of communication with my family and home country. To make this installation and sculptures, I digitized and printed the forms onto fabric and created intimate objects: undergarments, a pillow cover, and comforter. I chose these intimate objects to represent touch and in-person communication which is not possible for people far away
